PROJECT DETAILS: DEVELOPMENT OF PILOT PLANT FOR SALT PROCESSING

Following are the details of the project:

Salt is a major raw material used in food processing. The indigenous method of salt production in Nigeria is through evaporation of brine (salt water) using fire wood. The process is laborious and time consuming. The recovered salt is a mixture of various soluble salts in which sodium chloride (NaCl) is the dominant constituent. The Council collaborated with a Polytechnic in Nasarawa on the design and development of thin layer evaporator and solar dryer for salt producing areas of Nasarawa, Ebonyi and Kebbi States. The pilot equipment has the capacity to produce 100kg/day of refined salt. Local production of salt will reduce importation and generate employment.
