SCIENCE WRITERS AND REPORTERS WORKSHOP
A
training workshop for Science Writers and Reporters was organized by
the Council in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Science and
Technology (FMST) and the African Technology Policy Studies (ATPS)
Network from 24th – 27th May, 2004 at the
Le Meridien , Abuja.
The
workshop was targeted at science and technology feature writers,
special correspondents on science and technology in the print and
electronic media. Other participants were public relations officers
of key scientific organizations and ministries, as well as media
practitioners interested in S & T Policy writing. There were over
150 participants.
The
workshop was declared open by the Honourable Minister of Science and
Technology, Prof. Turner. T. Isoun. Resource persons were drawn
from University of Nairobi, Kenya, the African Biotechnology
Stakeholders Forum (ABSF), University of Ibadan, University of
Nigeria Nsukka, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, ATPS, Nairobi and
Corporate and Financial Communications, Ltd Lagos,(a public
relations company).
Among the resolutions at the workshop was the formation of a
Science Writers Association of Nigeria to enhance exchange of
ideas on science and technology and the integration of science and
technological developments in national development policies.
