RMRDC PRESENTS
PUBLICATIONS WORTH N28M TO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING
As part of
efforts aimed at building capacity for research within the nations
tertiary institutions and research centers, the Raw Materials
Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in a grand ceremony in
Abuja recently, has presented research publications worth over N27.5
million Naira to 170 educational institutions across the country.
The beneficiaries include 60 Universities, 30 Polytechnics, 45
Research Institutes, 7 Schools of Agriculture and Forestry, 20
Industrial private sector Associations and international agencies.
Presenting
the publications on behalf of the council, the Chairperson of the
RMRDC Governing board, Chief (Mrs.) Pauline Tallen , said the
gesture was in response to the need by the Council to encourage the
exploration, exploitation and development of the nation’s abundant
raw materials deposits.
Mrs. Tallen
said that the publications would provide the needed platform for the
cross- fertilization of ideas between the council and the
beneficiaries.
She noted
that the country was still in the woods of poverty despite the
preponderance of available agricultural and mineral resources due to
the absence of accurate information on processes for the utilization
of its hugely untapped resources. She said that the untapped
resources presented an immeasurable potential for achieving a sound
and vibrant economy that could facilitate rapid development.
Mrs. Tallen
therefore called on other research- based organizations to tow the
part of RMRDC and avail Nigerians and the international community of
their research findings to stimulate the country’s economic growth.
The former
minister of state for Science and Technology expressed the hope that
the institutions benefiting and other scientists would find the
publications ready reference materials for their various operations.
In his
address, at the occasion, the Director General of the Council, Eng.
(Prof.) Peter A. Onwualu said the production of the publications
fell in line with the mandates of the council of conducting surveys
and promoting enterprises capable of boosting research and
development in Nigeria.
The DG
expressed the belief that development strategy based on information
generation and dissemination were the required pivot in the nations
quest for socio- economic development.
