RMRDC ORGANIZES
TRAINING FOR RURAL WOMEN IN LOCAL RESOURCES PROCESSING
Determined to
build capacity for local resources development and utilization at
the grassroots level of the economy, the Raw Materials Research and
Development Council (RMRDC), in collaboration with the Jere Local
Government Area Council of Borno State, recently organized a
training workshop for rural women under its Women Economic
Empowerment programme. The event which was spearheaded by the Borno
State RMRDC Coordinating office, among other things, was designed to
expose the participants to the requisite skills for animal
fattening, Fish farming/ fish smoking, soap and pomade production,
yoghurt and Soya Beans milk production and Scent making.
The Workshop
which was declared open by the Chairman of Jere LGA and attended by
several dignitaries including the Senior Special Assistant to the
Borno State government on Investment, featured the presentation of
technical papers in special areas of agricultural production and
food processing.
Resource
persons at the event included Dr. Ismaila Abana from the Borno State
who in his presentation dwelt on the types of animal fattening
processes, types of animal feeds, vaccines, drugs, and dried meat
processing; Mallam Umoru Buba who spoke on fish rearing and
cultivation; James H. Mshellia, Head Maiduguri Dairy plant, Borno
State who gave a paper on yoghurt production from animal fresh milk,
Mrs. Rabiyatu M. G. NEAZDP, Yobe State, soap and pomade production;
and Miss Bintu Umaru, a trader who demonstrated the production of
local scent using available local raw materials.
There were
also practical demonstration of raw materials production and
utilization methods by the resource persons and exhibition of
finished goods and products at the workshop.
