NIM
SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH RMRDC ON OVERSEAS TRAINING
Following
ongoing reform efforts to reposition its workforce for greater
efficiency and improved service delivery and professionalism, the
Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) may just
consider the option of partnering with the Nigerian Institute of
Management (NIM) Chartered for the training of its personnel
overseas. This is even as the foremost Management regulatory
institution has canvassed for additional corporate support to enable
it execute some of its scheduled programmes for the year.
The NIM
President, Alh. Abubakar Mohammed, leading a delegation of executive
members of the body on a courtesy call to the Director General and
Chief Executive Officer of the council, Engr. (Prof) Peter Onwualu
in his recently, made this offer saying that a partnership in this
regard would ensure that members of staff of the council were
exposed to adequate training both locally and internationally in
line with the vision and agenda of the present administration for an
efficient workforce.
The NIM
president, who was also in the council to flag off the induction
ceremony organized by the institute for members of the National
Youth Service (NYSC) scheme, said NIM had repositioned for better
service delivery and greater efficiency a development which had seen
the body transforming to a chartered institute. He however noted
that this progress could best be maintained with the corporate
support of forward looking organizations such as RMRDC. He therefore
requested for closer working collaboration with the council.

Commented said there was a need to continuously train and retrain
the workforce in the public service to bring about better efficiency
and professionalism in the public service. He also linked this with
accountability saying that a well trained workforce guaranteed
greater accountability and probity. He said NIM was committed to
bringing about a revolution in the country by creating the enabling
environment for the training of the nation’s workforce.
The 1st
serving Permanent Secretary president of NIM therefore called for
closer ties with RMRDC even as he expressed gratitude for the
support already accorded the institute by the council over the
years.
The DG in his
response thanked the NIM members for their visit and noted that a
properly trained workforce was essential to the progress and growth
of any nation even as he acknowledged the effort of the Federal
Government towards having an improved workforce and the reform
programme which has led to the on going reorganization efforts in
the public service sector.
He said the
council had embarked on a series of programmes of repositioning
aimed at achieving greater efficiency, productivity and
professionalism in its service delivery. While noting that skills
without the requisite managerial skills could pose problems, Prof.
Onwualu said the council was committed to training its staff and was
considering the registration of more its personnel into professional
bodies.
He
congratulated the institute for contributing positively towards the
development of the labour force in Nigeria. On the training of staff
of the Council, the DG said the Council had concluded its reform
programme and would therefore require the training of members of
staff to make them more relevant to the organization.
The President
was accompanied by on the visit by the Director of Membership, Engr.
Suleyman, Director Corporate Services, Mrs Pat Anabo, and Director
Consultancy Services, Dr. (Mrs.) Obasa.
