NIM SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH RMRDC ON OVERSEAS TRAINING

Following ongoing reform efforts to reposition its workforce for greater efficiency and improved service delivery and professionalism, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) may just consider the option of partnering with the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) Chartered for the training of its personnel overseas. This is even as the foremost Management regulatory institution has canvassed for additional corporate support to enable it execute some of its scheduled programmes for the year.

The NIM President, Alh. Abubakar Mohammed, leading a delegation of executive members of the body on a courtesy call to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the council, Engr. (Prof) Peter Onwualu in his recently, made this offer saying that a partnership in this regard would ensure that members of staff of the council were exposed to adequate training both locally and internationally in line with the vision and agenda of the present administration for an efficient workforce.

The NIM president, who was also in the council to flag off the induction ceremony organized by the institute for members of the National Youth Service (NYSC) scheme, said NIM had repositioned for better service delivery and greater efficiency a development which had seen the body transforming to a chartered institute. He however noted that this progress could best be maintained with the corporate support of forward looking organizations such as RMRDC. He therefore requested for closer working collaboration with the council.

Alh. Mohammed Commented said there was a need to continuously train and retrain the workforce in the public service to bring about better efficiency and professionalism in the public service. He also linked this with accountability saying that a well trained workforce guaranteed greater accountability and probity. He said NIM was committed to bringing about a revolution in the country by creating the enabling environment for the training of the nation’s workforce.

The 1st serving Permanent Secretary president of NIM therefore called for closer ties with RMRDC even as he expressed gratitude for the support already accorded the institute by the council over the years.

The DG in his response thanked the NIM members for their visit and noted that a properly trained workforce was essential to the progress and growth of any nation even as he acknowledged the effort of the Federal Government towards having an improved workforce and the reform programme which has led to the on going reorganization efforts in the public service sector.

He said the council had embarked on a series of programmes of repositioning aimed at achieving greater efficiency, productivity and professionalism in its service delivery. While noting that skills without the requisite managerial skills could pose problems, Prof. Onwualu said the council was committed to training its staff and was considering the registration of more its personnel into professional bodies.

He congratulated the institute for contributing positively towards the development of the labour force in Nigeria. On the training of staff of the Council, the DG said the Council had concluded its reform programme and would therefore require the training of members of staff to make them more relevant to the organization.

The President was accompanied by on the visit by the Director of Membership, Engr. Suleyman, Director Corporate Services, Mrs Pat Anabo, and Director Consultancy Services, Dr. (Mrs.) Obasa.
