RMRDC TO COLLABORATE WITH KOGI
FOUNDATION FOR WORKSHOP ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT, PLANS
ANOTHER FOR LAGOS ON ALANBLANCKIA, BOABAB AND SHEANUT TREES
UTILIZATION IN NIGERIA
As part of efforts aimed at
developing the local production and processing of agro based
products in Nigeria through entrepreneurship and employment
generation, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council
(RMRDC) is set to partner with the Kogi Foundation in organizing a
workshop tagged, RMRDC, Kogi state Foundation and
Entrepreneurship Development.
The workshop which aims to
sensitize stakeholders on investment opportunities in Kogi state, in
three major agricultural products of the State such as cassava, palm
fruits and Sesame Seeds - the inclusion of sesame seed, in this
regard underscoring Council’s recent boosting effort in sesame
production in Nigeria - comes up on 28th November, 2006,
at the Lugard House, Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
This is even as the Council
prepares to hold another workshop on the Utilization of
Allanblanckia, Boabab and Sheanut Trees in Nigeria on Thursday 30th,
November, 2006, in it’s Lagos State Liaison Office, Plot 13 & 14,
Victoria Arobieke Street, Lekki Phase 1, Off Admiralty way, Raw
Materials Bus Stop, Lekki- Lagos.
The occasion which will be
chaired by Mr. Duro Kuteyi, Chairman National Association of Small
Scale Industries, Lagos Branch, Engr. (Prof) Peter Azikiwe Onwualu,
Director General, (RMRDC), as chief host, will witness the delivery
of several technical papers, some of which are: Economic Potentials
of Boabab Fruits as Industrial Raw Materials in Nigeria, by Alh. G.
A. Solabi, Managing Director, Rambigas Nigeria Ltd., Lagos, Ecology,
Propagation and Utilization of Alanblackia Plant in Nigeria, by, Dr.
P. Anegbe of World Agro-Forestry Center IITA Station, Portharcourt,
and Upgrading Indigenous Technology for Raw Materials Processing:
RMRDC Shaenut Experience, by Dr. Daniel B. Ayo, Director,
Teccchnology Development Department, (RMRDC).
Prof. Onwualu who will be a Guest
Speaker at the RMRDC/Kogi Foundation Entrepreneurship Development
Workshop in Lokoja, will deliver a key paper on RMRDC and
Entrepreneurship Development in Nigeria as well as pay a scheduled
courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His
Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris to discuss among other things, the
prospects of establishing a cashew nut processing factory in Kogi
State.
Other resource persons at this
event will deliver papers some of which include Investment
Opportunities in Cassava Production and Processing, by Alhaji U. A.
Hassan, (RMRDC), Mechanization of Palm Oil Processing – The Way
Forward, Mr. K. B. Ajoku, Special Assistant to DG (RMRDC), Promoting
the Production of High Yield Sesame Seed in Nigeria – The Role of
RMRDC and Investment Opportunities, Mr. R. N. Ihenacho, Director
(Research Coordination Dept.) (RMRDC), among others.
Participation at both workshops
will be free of charge and will involve both the private and public
sectors, as well as some selected Non- Governmental Agencies in the
country.
