RMRDC COMMISSIONS FIRST LOCAL ESSENTIAL OIL PLANT

History was made recently when the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in conjunction with the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT) zone, and the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa presented to the public the first two indigenously   designed and fabricated essential oil extraction plants.

Also presented were two publications, monograph series developed by the council and another book on Basic concept to computer Aides design and fabrication of raw materials process equipments.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony in Abuja recently, the Director General of the council Eng (Prof) Peter Onwualu said the pilot scale plants were designed to extract essential oil from locally available plants including Lemon Grass, Citronella and Eucalyptus.

Prof Onwualu maintained that in order to achieve the technological development of the Country, RMRDC had also embarked on upgrading of indigenous technology and capacity building including proper documentation of design parameters for process equipment and plants formulations for industrial purposes.

He described the presentation as milestones by the council in its efforts to achieve its Strategic Plan mandate of ensuring a sustainable technological development for the Country.

On the book on basic concepts of plants and process equipment design, the DG said the publication was prepared by a selected team of Engineering professionals who examined the basic aspects of plant equipment design to guide individuals or groups interested in the subject area.

In his contribution, the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST). Dr. Abubaker Aliyu, who was represented by the Director, Science and Promotion Department FMST, noted that the ministry placed top priority on capacity building for the local designed and fabrication of process equipment for conversion of the bation’s local resources.
