The food,
beverage and tobacco sector which has been re-classified into seventeen
product related categories enjoys an upward swing, considering the
appreciable improvement in the performance of many key sub-sectors. The
update reveals that average capacity utilization in the Food, Beverage
and Tobacco sector rose from 42% in 2001 to 63% in 2002. Also data
obtains from this report indicates that employment in the sector rose
from 274, 284 in 2001 to 372, 209 in 2002. The improved operating
environment the report attributed to the fiscal policy measures,
especially tariff concessions on key raw materials, machinery and
equipment.
