stripping of fruits from the bunch, cooking, digesting, clarifying of
oil and drying.

Status/Prospects:
This industry had contributed
significantly to the farmers income and the nations export earnings in
the past. Apart from the oil extracted, a number of small scale
industries are feasible.
Other feasible by-products of oil palm are:
- oil palm sludge
- palm wine
- palm sap
-
palm kernel cake.
The present holdings comprised mainly of 2.16 million hectares of palm
in wild groves, 111,069 hectares under small holders and an aggregate of
about 81,119 hectares under estates would need to be
revived/rehabilitated to enable the country fill the short fall in
supply of palm oil and kernel production.
R&D
Activities:
The
National Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) has the national
mandate to improve production and utilization of Oil palm in the
Country.
