Experts appointed by the Special unit, South South Co-operation of UNDP are to visit selected African countries that would serve as the regional focal points to co-ordinate the management of data on raw materials from their countries as well as other countries in their sub-region.

The feasibility study conducted in 1992 identified some countries in Africa with required capacity to serve as one of the countries to be visited during the proposed field trips which is to commence 20^th July, 2008.

During the trip, institutions which store data on raw materials and activities of industries that utilize them will be visited.

Interviews will be conducted with relevant staff in those institutions and questionnaires will be administered in order to collect preliminary data on raw materials and related activities..

Data collected will be used to establish a central data bank to which the data base at the regional focal points would be linked for data co-ordination and exchange of information on raw materials.

The central database would be internet-based and would be assessed worldwide to attract investors to African countries for investment.

The central database would subsequently be hooked to GATES system in China. This is expected to be the main project of the RMIS for Africa.
